Who Is Dangerous Dougal?

DJing With Dangerous Dougal

Hey! I’m Calum Henderson or as I like to be known Dangerous Dougal, my old DJ alter ego.

I’ve been DJing since the early 1990s and learnt my craft on old belt drive turntables before moving on to direct drives, CDJs and finally digital DJing. I’ve fond memories of DJing on everything from Vestax turntables and mixers, to Technics 1200s and Pioneer club ready DJ equipment.

I’ve become a massive fan of all kinds of music, audio and technology. Over the years I’ve found myself spending more and more time fascinated by how audio and DJ technology has been evolving over the last 20 – 30 years along with the industry and the people that love playing their favorite tunes to an audience.

Over the course of my DJing life, I’ve loved finding out about the latest products, trends and ways of playing music. I’ve become obsessed with listening to music in it’s original form, just as the producer or artist intended it to be heard. I've also loved keeping a breast of new technologies, the resurgence of old equipment and the impact it has on us, the DJs out there.

What Will This Blog Offer?

I’ve decided to create this blog to offer anyone that’s interested one location to find information on the following related areas:

2.       DJ streaming, products, software and experiences

3.       Hifi, speaker and component technology and high fidelity audio

4.       Portable audio and headphone based audio

5.       Information on classic dance music, record labels, producers and tracks

How Often Will This Blog Be Updated?

I’ll be posting to this blog articles on the above as often as my time will allow, along with updating my own Dangerous Dougal DJ mixes page on Mixcloud.

Why am I doing this?

Well, I spend all my spare time looking this stuff up here there and everywhere. Wouldn’t it be nice to have all of it all in one place?

Anything Else...?

Finally if you have anything you want featured on these pages or you want to reach out to me, please get in touch. Email me at dangerousdougal@gmail.com.

The Next DJ Tech Revolution - Motorised Jog Wheels On DJ Controllers

DJing has come a long way since the days of vinyl records and turntables. Today's technology has pushed the boundaries of what's possible, bringing new levels of creativity and precision to the art of mixing. One of the most exciting developments in recent years is the rise of motorised jog wheels on DJ controllers. With the recent release of the Rane Performer the talk of motorised jog wheels has never been more prevalent. If you're a DJ or aspiring to become one, understanding this technology could be a game-changer for your performances.  What Are Motorised Jog Wheels? At its core, a jog wheel is a circular interface on a DJ controller used to manipulate the playback of music tracks. Traditionally, jog wheels are non-motorised, meaning they don't spin on their own. You have to manually move them to control the track. However, motorised jog wheels are different—they mimic the feel of a turntable platter by spinning like a vinyl record, offering a more authentic scratc...
